Irene Crawford McNutt
Irene Crawford McNutt was born on 17 August 1896 at Claysville, Washington County, Pennsylvania.1,2 She was the daughter of Charles Hook McNutt and Maude Rebecca Crawford.1 Irene Crawford McNutt died on 30 May 1908 at age 11.3,4,2 She was buried at Claysville, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary read as follows: "Irene Crawford McNutt. At three o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 30, 1908, of brain fever, Irene Crawford, eldest child and only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. McNutt, aged 11 years 9 months and 12 days. She was sick about ten days, and while her sufferings were intense they were born with wonderful patience. She was a loving daughter to her parents and devoted sister to the four little brothers who survive her. Her short life gave evidence that she was a child of Jesus. She loved her Bible, her church, the Sabbath school, and the Junior Union; was always ready to take an active part in the meetings. She had hoped to soon make a public profession of her love for her Savior. Repeatedly during her illness her voice was raised in singing the sweet songs of Zion. The funeral service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. Alexander MacLachlan, D.D., some of her little companions singing the songs she loved. Four little girls, Gladys Blayney, Nina Martin, Lena Sprowls and Susannah McKeown, members of her sewing circle, acted as flower bearers. The parents and little brothers have the sympathy of their many friends in this sad bereavement."4
