     Eli McNees was born in 1819 at Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.1,2 He was the son of William McNees and Mary Covert.1,2 Eli McNees married Maria Steen, daughter of John Steen and Catherine Barnes, in 1846 at Bridgewater, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.1,2 Linnie McNees Cooper says her father William Johnston McNees said that Everette was adopted but Georgiana Armor McNees says her mother Delilah Maud Gillespie McNees knew nothing of it. The strongest point favoring adoption statement is that this couple was married 19 years without a child until Everette was born.2 Eli McNees became Everette Herbert McNees's adoptive father.1,2 Eli McNees died on 16 April 1891 at Industry, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.3,4 He was buried at Industry, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.1,2
