     Matthew McNees was born on 24 January 1843 at Cherry Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.¹ He was the son of Marcus McNees and Martha Jane Adams.¹ Matthew mustered into the Union army on 16 Dec 1861, was wounded at the battle of Fair Oaks on 31 May 1862, and died from his wounds a little over a month later.^1,2 Matthew McNees died on 23 July 1862 at Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, at age 19.^1,2 He was buried at Section I, Grave 1892, Annapolis National Cemetery, Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Maryland.^1,2
