Edna Gertrude Hipsley Puscher
Edna Gertrude Hipsley was born on 19 March 1909 at Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee.2 She was the daughter of Joseph Hipsley Jr. and Edna Gertrude McNees.2 Edna Gertrude Hipsley married Edward Rudolph Puscher, son of Edward Puscher and Susanna Steffani, on 20 October 1928 at Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania.2 Edna Gertrude Hipsley died on 18 January 2011 at Mary Health of the Sick Nursing Home, Newbury Park, San Diego County, California, at age 101. Her obituary read, "Edna Gertrude Puscher passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 while in the loving care of Mary Health of the Sick nursing home in Newbury Park. She was 101 years old. Edna was born in Memphis, Tenn. She spent her teen years in Erie, Pa., where she graduated at the age of 16 from Academy High School. She took a job at a church organ manufacturing company where she met her future husband. Edna's life revolved around her family. She had two children, Jean Puscher and Edward Puscher. After Jean married, Edna spent most of her time caring for Edward and working at various jobs to earn enough money to ensure that Edward could have a college education. Edna eventually became an office manager for a medical practice. While working full-time, she found time to be a cub scout den mother and president of the PTA. She loved to teach children and taught Sunday school classes for many years. She played the accordion and piano. Upon her husband's retirement, Edna and Eddie moved to Phoenix, Ariz., to be near their daughter Jean and son-in-law Bob Bell and their five children. Edna was very attached to her family and spent many happy days with her children and especially her grandchildren. After Eddie's death in 1986, Edna lived with her sister, Margaret, and then with her daughter. In 1998, Edna came to live with Edward and his wife Hilde in California. From the ages of 89 to 92, Edna was an active member of the Walk and Roll group at the Camarillo Health Care District where she walked for one mile two times per week. In 2004, because of failing health, she moved into Mary Health of the Sick nursing hospital where she received exceptional care. Edna was preceded in death by her mother and father, her three sisters, her brother, her husband, daughter and son-in-law, and even four grandchildren. She is survived by her son Edward and his wife Hilde, three grandchildren (Laurie, Sharyl and Beverly), plus 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Edna will be buried in Erie, PA." She was buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania.
