John Taylor McNees1,2

M, b. 24 March 1805, d. 1 December 1885
John Taylor McNees was born on 24 March 1805 at Worth Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.2 He was the son of James McNees and Elizabeth Taylor.2 John Taylor McNees married first Elizabeth Cooper, daughter of Zebulon S. Cooper and Sara Bean Bane.2 John Taylor McNees married second Eliza Beaty after August 1842.2 John Taylor McNees had four sons by his second wife, all of whom left Butler County after their father and mother went south after the civil war. Going south was quite popular due to much cheaper land and the warmer climate but a great many returned or went west due to attention from the KKK. The men were in favor of riding it out but the women banded together and gave their husbands three choices: 1) go back home, 2) go west, or 3) they could stay but the wives would take the children and return to Pennsylvania. John Taylor's son, John Scott, went back north but chose to go to Ohio.2 He died on 1 December 1885 at Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania, at age 80.3 He was buried at Fletcher Cemetery, Bruin, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
