     George Washington McNees was born on 15 August 1854 at Girty, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.1,2 He was the son of James McNees and Sarah Armstrong.1,2 George Washington McNees married first Anna Rachel George, daughter of Johnson George and Margaret Shoemaker, on 25 December 1883 at Girty, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.1,2 George Washington McNees married second Katherine Eliza Book, daughter of Samuel Jefferson Book and Mary Jane McCune, on 30 November 1907 at Coffee County, Tennessee.3 Nothing much was passed on about his early life until he was old enough to drive a horse and spring wagon about the country selling products of his father's clay works at Girty, Pennsylvania. The most popular product according to word of mouth history being a clay pump. His wagon was loaded when he left and he usually kept going until sold out of main articles when he went home to replenish stock. Each night he spent in some farmers home. He became so well known that he got elected sheriff and in the meantime he acquired another clay works known as the Kittanning Clay Works and moved the McNees clay works to Kittanning. He was elected state senator which he held until his death. His son Clifford operated the two clay plants and then his grandson John Clifford McNees operated them at least as late as 1972.1 George Washington McNees died on 12 July 1922 at while visiting Ida Viola McNees Cowles, California, at age 67.1,2 He was buried at Kittanning, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.1,2
