     William Johnson McNees was born on 3 September 1852 at Worth Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.1,2,3 He was the son of John Covert McNees and Catherine Clark.1,2,3 William Johnson McNees married Mary Emma Waddington, daughter of Thomas Holmes Waddington and Isabella Almira Book, on 31 December 1873 at at the home of her father, New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.2,3 William Johnson McNees died on 21 November 1937 at New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, at age 85.4 His obituary read, "Husband of Mary Emma (Waddington) McNees. Father of John Sirwell, Lennie Ada and Anna Ethel McNees. William Johnson McNees aged 86 years of 502 1/2 Florence avenue, died at 9:30 o'clock Sunday night at the New Castle hospital where he had been a patient since breaking his leg at a fall in his home two weeks ago. Mr. McNees was born in Worth Township, Butler Co. on Sept 3, 1851, son of John Taylor Mcnees and Catherine Clark McNees. His family and the Studebaker family were the earlist settlers in that section. Fourty-seven years ago Mr. McNees and his wife the former Emma Waddington, moved to New Castle and had resided here ever since. The deceased was a member of Epworth M. E. church and the Protected Home Circle. Had Mr. McNees lived until December 31 the couple would have been married 64 years. Besides his wife he leaves one daughter Mrs. Jesse R. Cooper of New Castle: two granddaughters Mrs. Jay L. Reed (Lennie) of New Castle and Mrs. Wayne F. Koopes of Troy, New York; six great grandchildren and one sister Mrs. Esther McConnell of Harlansburg. He is preceded in death by a son John F. McNees in 1894 and a daughter Mrs. Anna Nelson in 1935. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the residence of Florence Ave. with Rev. Harold A. McCurdy of Epworth Church and Rev. D. L. Furguson D. D. of Highland U. P. Church in charge. Interment will be made in Oak Park Cemetery."4 He was buried at Oak Park Cemetery, New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.4
