Rush married Anna Bailey, daughter of William Bailey and Mahala Wilson, in 1867.1 James R. Rush died on 15 February 1921 at Mount Carroll, Carroll County, Illinois, at age 72.2 He was buried at Oak Hill Cem, Mount Carroll Township, Carroll County, Illinois.2
