     John Hargnett was born on 13 April 1811 at Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.2,3 He was the son of Frederick Hargnett and Catherine Tosh.1,4,5 His constitution being a delicate one, he left the farm in 1830 and became a clerk in a store in Ligonier. Two years later he established himself in the mercantile business there, which he conducted personally until old age compelled him to reture from its active duties.1 John Hargnett married first Susan Armor, daughter of David Armor, in 1836 at Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.6 John Hargnett married second Laura B. Platt, daughter of William Platt, in 1850 at Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.1 John Hargnett married third Euphemia Bernetta McDonald, daughter of James McDonald and Catherine Carnahan, in 1854.1 In April, 1896, he had an unfortunate accident, falling and fracturing his hip joint, the effects of which finally caused his death.1 John Hargnett died on 13 June 1896 at Ligonier, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, at age 85.1,7 He was buried at Ligonier Valley Cemetery, Ligonier, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.1
