     John McNees was born on 21 March 1778 at Huntington Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of William McNees and Jane McCormick.2,1 John McNees married Mary Taylor, daughter of Thomas Taylor and Alyce Cahill, in 1805 or 1806 at Plain Grove, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.1 John McNees was a 2nd Lt in the War of 1812 (See Pa Archives 6th Series, Vol. 10, Page 99). He was blind of one eye but no record to show how or when. He was the first deacon of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church in 1812 and ordained an elder in 1822. He died on 11 January 1869 at Worth Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, at age 90.1 He was buried at Plain Grove Presbyterian Cemetery, Plain Grove, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.1
