Johnston and Alma Amanda Lane, on 18 October 1947 at Polk County, Iowa.² Ernest Edward VanZandt died on 3 March 2012 at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, at age 86.¹

     George Maynard VanZandt was born on 25 November 1929 at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.¹ He was the son of George William VanZandt and Ethel Mae Waltz.¹ George Maynard VanZandt married Ethel Juanita "Sissie" Kern, daughter of Earl Clifford Kern and Ethel Leta Archer, on 19 July 1948 at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.² George Maynard VanZandt died on 4 October 2017 at Berwick, Polk County, Iowa, at age 87.¹ His obituary read, "George Maynard Van Zandt, 87, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. George was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Ethel “Sissie” Van Zandt; second wife, Phyllis Ann (Kratzberg) Van Zandt; his parents, George William and Ethel Mae (Waltz) Van Zandt; and his siblings, Barbara, Alice, Donna, LeRoy and Ernest. George was born November 25, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa. He retired from Firestone after 33 years. He enjoyed any activity that involved the outdoors. Some of his favorite pastimes included fishing, trapping and hunting. George played softball and coached baseball in his younger years. He was an avid Cubs, Bears, and Hawkeyes fan. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing. He is survived by his sons, Edward (Suzanne) Van Zandt and Floyd Van Zandt, daughters, Vickie (Sam) Chavez and Sharon (Roger) Jones, seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and his brother, Harry."¹

     Lora Elizabeth VanZant was born on 7 March 1910 at Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio.¹ She was the daughter of John Allen VanZant and Bertha Mae Washburn.¹ Lora Elizabeth VanZant married Challen A. Dougherty, son of Lauren "Lone" F. Dougherty and Marguerite Keyser, on 22 May 1937.¹ Lora Elizabeth VanZant died on 20 November 2006 at Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio, at age 96.¹

     Evelyn M. VanZant was born on 31 March 1912 at Highland County, Ohio.¹ She was the daughter of John Allen VanZant and Bertha Mae Washburn.¹ Evelyn M. VanZant married Renick L. Rittenhouse, son of Vernon Renick Rittenhouse and Mary Isabell West, on 1 January 1938 at Highland County, Ohio.¹ Evelyn M. VanZant died on 10 September 2000 at Frankfort, Ross County, Ohio, at age 88.¹

     John Clayton VanZant was born on 23 September 1914 at Highland County, Ohio.¹ He was the son of John Allen VanZant and Bertha Mae Washburn.¹ John Clayton VanZant married Ruth Virginia Murphy, daughter of James Richard Murphy and Catherine M. Hoffman, on 29 November 1938.¹ John Clayton VanZant died on 18 May 1998 at Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio, at age 83.¹
