Carl A. Ryser1

     Carl A. Ryser was born on 17 July 1940 at Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio.1 He was the son of Edward Emanuel Ryser Sr. and Myrtle Irene McNutt.1 Carl A. Ryser married Celia A. Oertel, daughter of Charles Oertel and Annabelle Cranz.1 Carl A. Ryser died on 9 October 2007 at Crandell Medical Center, Sebring, Mahoning County, Ohio, at age 67.1 His obituary read, "Carl A. Ryser, 67, of East 15th Street, Salem, died at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday at Crandall Medical Center. Born in Salem, Ohio, on July 17, 1940, he was the son of the late Edward and Myrtle (McNutt) Ryser. He graduated from Salem High School in 1958 and attended Kent State University for two years. In 1958 he started working at the Ohio Pump Company and was owner and president from 1976-1999. Carl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as Chairman of the Finance Committee. In addition, he was also a former elder and trustee of the church and a former Superintendent of the Sunday School. Carl was a former Executive Director of Northern Columbiana County United Way along with being a member and past president (1994) of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, and one of the original 16 members of the President's Club. Carl was a member of the Salem Golf Club and enjoyed playing golf, tennis, fishing and motorcycle riding. Carl is survived by his wife Celia A. (Oertel) Ryser; one son, Scott (Kathleen) Ryser of Westminister, Md; one daughter, Amy (Louis) Coccia of Pataskala, Ohio; two sisters, Norma Ryser Duris and Shirley Stryffeler, both of Columbiana, Ohio; two grandchildren, Lauren and Logan Coccia; and one step grandson, Aiden Reinke. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwartd Ryser in 1995. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, 436 East Second Street, Salem, with Dr Tom Niccolls and Scott Ryser officiating. Interment will be in Historic Hope Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stark Memorial. In lieu of flowers friends may contribute to the charity of the donors choice or the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 436 East Second Street, Salem, Ohio 44460."2 He was buried at Hope Cemetery, Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio.1

     Celia A. Oertel was born on 28 March 1942 at Akron, Summit County, Ohio.2 She was the daughter of Charles Oertel and Annabelle Cranz.2 Celia A. Oertel married Carl A. Ryser, son of Edward Emanuel Ryser Sr. and Myrtle Irene McNutt.1 Celia A. Oertel died on 18 September 2011 at Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio, at age 69.2 Her obituary read, "Celia A. Ryser, 69, of E. 15th St., Salem, died at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011, at her home. She was born March 28, 1942 in Akron, the daughter of the late Charles and Annabelle (Cranz) Oertel. Mrs. Ryser was a homemaker, a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Salem, the November Circle of the church and a 1960 graduate of Salem High School. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and at the Century House. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and liked to read. Her husband, Carl A. Ryser, preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 2007. Survivors include a son, Scott (Kathleen) Ryser of Uniontown, Md., a daughter, Amy (Louis) Coccia of Pataskala, Ohio; a sister, Leila (Joe) Deagan of Minerva; four grandchildren, Lauren Coccia, Logan Coccia, Aiden Reinke and Emmanuel Ryser. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Meta Cramer officiating, with a message from Celia's son, Scott. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery."2 She was buried at Hope Cemetery, Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio.2
